I also plan to add information about award winning mysteries, but my own writing continues to take presidence and I haven't spent enough time to get this area up to snuff. The Edgar Allen Poe Awards are annually presented by the Mystery Writers Association. Mostly, but not always, the nominees and winners are standalone novels rather than part of a series. They also tend to avoid "cozies." That said, I have enjoyed almost every one on this list that I have read. One I couldn't get past about fifty pages, which just goes to show you can't ever please everyone.
